Score one for the people with food allergies! California is the first state in the country that will require restaurant chains with 20 or more locations to disclose major food allergens on their menus.
This change was spurred in part by a California lawmaker who had their own difficulties identifying allergens when dining out. And if you've got dairy AND soy allergies then you know how big of a deal this can be for people in our boat.
Here's to hoping my home state of New York is next to act. In the meantime, check out the Kitchen Counter for our dairy-free + soy-free swaps guide with safe substitutes you can use in all your cooking.
